Cancel 9th Asia Pacific Deaf Games 2019

Both of APDSC Executive Board and HKGOC had seriously discussed about this seriously situation and increased risks last couple of days.  It was noted that the possibility of extending the higher risks for our athletes and official’s well-being and safety since the Hong Kong Government decided to ban on the protestors to wear the face masks during the protests last Friday October 9. 

Both APDSC and HKGOC have regretted agreed to inform all of our AP members that the 9th Asia Pacific Deaf Games has been decided to be CANCELLED due for HKGOC CANT to guarantee the safety and well-being of our athletes and officials during the Games due to the increased conflictions in Hong Kong since the banning for protesters to wear the face masks last Friday October 9.

The APDSC Board will looking for the alternatives for the Games and will inform you all as soon as possible.

On behalf of the APDSC and HKGOC, I am regretting to see this be happening as we were VERY positive with HKGOC’s commitment to organise for the 9th Asia Pacific Deaf Games until Hong Kong Government decided to ban the face masks for protestors last Friday.

Again, I wish to apologies as I know this announcement has affected and impacted your Federation’s planning and preparing to send your team to the 9th APDGG.

1.       Re reimbursement for the loss costs for cancelling the flight tickets, both of APDSC and HKGOC had a clause in the Entry Form Two (Form no 15 – Declaration of Understanding) that we instructed all National Deaf Sports Federations to have the insurance to cover any damages.

2.       Re penalty fee and blacklisted on athletes, let you know that since the 9th APDG has been cancelled due to political situation, which has been escalated since Hong Kong Government decided to ban the protesters to wear the face masks earlier this month.  APDSC will NOT penalise or blacklist the participating team members due to the Games being cancelled.
