Yesterday, Tuesday, the delegation of the Yemeni Deaf Sports Federation, headed by Ahmed Abdulkhaleq Al-Qamrai, President of the Federation, and Ibrahim Muhammad Jahaf, Secretary-General, returned to the homeland after participating in the 10th Asian and Pacific Games for the Deaf, which were held in Malaysia during the period from December 1 to 9, 2024.

This year's games were attended by Abdulhakim Murshid and Abdulrahman Al-Khawlani in athletics, while player Walid Hamdan and player Manal Al-Ashoul represented Yemen in chess, thus reflecting Yemen's distinguished sports level in the field of deaf sports.

As part of the distinguished participation, Yemen participated in the elections of the Asian Deaf Sports Federation for the period 2024-2028, which is an important step towards strengthening Yemen's presence in the Asian and international sports arena.

The President of the General Federation of Deaf Sports, Ahmed Al-Qamrai, expressed his pride in participating in this prominent sporting event despite the many challenges that the mission faced. Al-Qamra said: "Participating in the 10th Asian and Pacific Games was a rich experience, and we had great hopes of achieving medals that would raise Yemen's status internationally. However, unfortunately, we faced many difficulties due to the lack of capabilities, both material and moral, which affected the performance of our players. Also, the training conditions were difficult, as we were unable to hold long training camps commensurate with the size of the competition, and the duration of the monthly training camp was not sufficient to fully prepare the players."

Al-Qamra pointed out that Yemen was unable to send a sufficient number of participants in the tournament compared to other countries that participated with a larger number of players, which gave it an advantage in the competitions. Despite these challenges, Al-Qamrai confirmed that the mission did its best to achieve the best results.

Al-Qamra praised all members of the mission, stressing that they gave an honorable performance, and that this participation contributes to raising awareness about the importance of sports for the deaf, in addition to being an opportunity to motivate the relevant authorities to improve support for deaf sports in Yemen.

Many technical and administrative cadres participated in this achievement, who were part of the success, stressing that the future of deaf sports in Yemen is promising, and that work will be done to develop the infrastructure and support athletes in the future.
